Intense Emotions Lead to Immigrant Abuse in America

Are all “criminals” created equal? Should we treat every crime with the same severity of punishment? Are speeding and murder comparable? Is entering the country illegally or failing to complete legal citizenship status in a timely manner equivalent to manslaughter, armed robbery, etc.?

These rhetorical questions represent an obvious and logical answer: the punishment needs to match the crime.

In the case of illegal immigrants, Trump Republicans are anything but logical. Their over-the-top emotional reactions have become rash, dangerous, and downright criminal. The American government under Trump’s leadership is currently committing crimes against humanity.

Ironically, Trump Republicans blame Democrats for thinking and acting with too much emotion, even negatively calling simple humane behavior “woke.” They fail to acknowledge that there are two sides to emotions. What they call “woke” and emotionally weak is really just humane, kind treatment -- being a good human.

On the other hand, what they practice as “justice” is often short-sighted, emotionally immature, knee jerk, fear-based rash behavior.  What they claim is a no-nonsense, logical, and emotionless approach to law enforcement is actually quite the opposite. It takes a lot of hateful energy to motivate ICE agents to abuse and attack people with little regard for their humanity. Their actions require an immense amount of hatred, contempt, and disgust, which represents the dark side of human emotions. Remember, though, that they are emotions, nonetheless.

They might say, “Well, you can’t fault us for acting out of fear. We just want America to be safe. If a few immigrants get hurt by mistake, we’re sorry, but America comes first, and illegal immigrants broke the law by coming here illegally in the first place!” Such emotion-infused rhetoric, devoid of a clear thinking, rational approach, simply gives permission for people to commit heinous acts in the name of “justice.”

Emotions can be light or dark, folks. They go both ways, and right now, Trump is playing on some Americans’ darkest and most sinister emotions. How else do you explain the extreme abuse of many law-abiding, hardworking people because of a few criminals?

Don’t be fooled by people saying they just want illegal immigrants to face the consequences when they know very well what kind of evil, hateful consequences ICE agents are dishing out every day: kidnapping, detaining, and abusing immigrants and citizens: human beings. In almost every case, the punishment doesn’t meet the crime -- doesn’t even come close! Instead, they are allowing their intense emotional desire for power, control, and yes, hatred, overrule logic.
